Our fund is about to hit second closing

And we’ve just made our first US investment

If you’ve been thinking about investing in quantum, the time is now.

This year has already seen some significant technological breakthroughs and large financings (see the selection of news below), and things are only going to get hotter.

You can see this also in Jensen Huang’s recent 180-degree turnaround on quantum, culminating in his GTC keynote in Taipei, where he presented all the work NVIDIA has been doing with partners (including our very own Fermioniq!) on building hybrid quantum-GPU computing.

QDNL Participations is well positioned to capitalise on this next wave of quantum breakthroughs and we’ve recently made our first investment in a US-based quantum startup.

This is our first investment outside the Netherlands, marking our transition into a truly international fund. The company we’re backing has been founded by top academics from USC and Harvard and a seasoned hardtech entrepreneur. Together they are building an AI-powered operating system for quantum computers.

More recent developments from the world of quantum tech:

  • Quantinuum and Al Rabban Capital have launched a joint venture that will see up to $1 billion invested over 10 years by Qatar in quantum technologies and workforce development. This announcement comes on the back of recent technological breakthroughs from Quantinuum, including one of the first demonstrations of quantum advantage on a real use case, with JPMorgan.

  • IonQ has continued its M&A spree, announcing the acquisition of two companies, Lightsynq and Capella Space to further boost its quantum networking capabilities. This follows the recent acquisition of Qubitekk and IDQuantique.

  • Fujitsu and RIKEN have unveiled a 256-Qubit superconducting quantum computer, quadrupling their previous system’s capacity. This is a big boost for Japan’s place in the international quantum landscape.

  • Bosch has partnered with synthetic diamond provider Element Six to create a new company called Bosch Quantum Sensing, which will explore market opportunities for quantum sensors.

  • Spain has launched a $860 million quantum strategy as it looks to position itself as a leader in quantum technologies, while protecting its digital infrastructure.

  • In the face of increased use of malicious GPS scrambling around the world, Q-CTRL has announced successful field trials of new quantum-assured navigation solutions. This is a crucial field of development in the quantum sensing space at present.

  • DARPA has announced 20 quantum computing companies that will enter the initial stage of its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative.

  • NVIDIA is establishing an Accelerated Quantum Research Center in Boston, MA, USA to integrate quantum hardware with AI supercomputers and advance accelerated quantum supercomputing.
